Daman factory

Our works at Kachigam. The press shop, the slitting line, the tool room, the inspection bay and despatch are all here.

What happens here

Daman is the only place we manufacture. Coil arrives, and we slit it to width, stamp it, inspect it and pack it — it leaves as a labelled crate with its paperwork.

Our tool room is on the same floor as the presses, so a worn tool is sharpened on our own grinders without the part leaving the site.

The slitting line takes mother coil up to 1250 mm and cuts it to whatever width the tool needs, to a width tolerance of +0 / −0.1 mm, with the slit edge checked for burr before the strip is released to the press floor. A width is a setup here rather than a stock item. The cut-to-length line runs alongside it, cutting transformer laminations to length up to 300 mm wide.

The press shop stamps on progressive tooling on power presses from 10 T to 220 T, with auto-stack and auto-skew tooling where the part calls for it. Nothing runs until the first piece off a new setup has been inspected and approved.

Inspection happens three times in every job — at first-off, in-process while the press is running, and on the finished lot before packing — and the crate is labelled with its lot identity and goes out with its inspection report and the source mill's test certificate. The order of all six operations is set out under how a coil becomes a packed lot, and what we check, and when lists every attribute checked.

Enquiries here route by department rather than to a named individual, so that a drawing, an invoice query or a despatch schedule reaches the desk that can answer it first time. The department addresses are on the contact page.
